State Employees’ Credit Union Raises Nearly $50,000 for March of Dimes®!

RALEIGH, N.C., July 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) recently celebrated another successful year of fundraising for March of Dimes with staff in the Triangle and surrounding areas raising nearly $50,000 through a variety of efforts, including organized fundraisers and individual donations.  Team SECU also came out in full force for this year’s March for Babies® walk, setting a new record with 350 Credit Union employees and family members hiking 3 miles together in honor of those affected by premature birth.

Participating in March for Babies walks in the Triangle and around the state has been an annual tradition of State Employees’ Credit Union staff for decades.  Branch and operations employees donate their time and talent to raise funds year-round for the non-profit’s programs and services dedicated to giving babies a strong, healthy future.

“Every baby deserves a healthy start, but not every baby gets one.  State Employees’ Credit Union is helping us change that,” said Catherine Heindselman, March of Dimes Executive Director – Eastern North Carolina.  “SECU is our largest and one of our most dedicated March for Babies teams, raising close to $50,000 this year and almost $650,000 in total since joining our efforts.  These critical funds help us in the fight for healthy moms and strong babies with programs, advocacy, and research so that every generation has the brightest tomorrow.  We are so grateful for this partnership!”

Colton Mathews, Vice President at Durham-Lowe’s Grove branch, understands the importance of the March of Dimes’ mission all too well.  He remarked, “As the father of an extraordinary daughter born at 29 weeks, I know firsthand the courage of these remarkable fighters.  In light of all the research and innovation March of Dimes provides in working to save the smallest among us, I am grateful to be part of an organization committed to living the ‘People Helping People®’ philosophy by supporting such a healthy cause.”
