ATLANTA and SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 01, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Finding your virtual private network in today’s world can be a tiresome search if you don’t have access to the right resources. The team at VPN.com led by CEO, Michael Gargiulo, is on a mission to help over 1 billion people find the right VPN for their needs and budget by 2025. Their mission continues this week with VPN.com releasing an official VPN Market Infographic for 2018.
“I’m excited to release this VPN infographic that shows the magnitude of the $40 billion VPN market,” Gargiulo says. “It includes 916 of the top consumer VPN providers and was part of a larger VPN research campaign that took more than a year to assemble.”
Modeled in the spirit after the famous marketing landscape infographic and HubSpot executive Scott Brinker, the VPN infographic combines a unique style that includes the logo of each VPN provider, organized by device and app store availability.
With the VPN market exploding, some estimate that the number of providers will continue expanding to as many as 4,000 or more in the years ahead. Even now, larger companies have begun buying up smaller service providers to grab valuable VPN market share.
Respected providers are proving the durability of the VPN industry. HotSpot Shield, a company that receives more than 5,000,000 downloads of their VPN per month, successfully raised over $52 million by Goldman Sachs. The VPN industry is expected to see more sizeable and VC-backed investments before 2020.
“I have reached out to Symantec CEO, Greg Clark, and McAfee CEO, Chris Young, multiple times in the past to discuss a consumer VPN offering. Even with VPN usage exploding, these major security companies didn’t recognize the value of a consumer VPN offering until recently. ” Gargiulo added. “Lowell McAdam, CEO of Verizon Communications, just announced their own Verizon VPN and we fully expect other large cellular and internet service providers to do the same.”
As the Internet of Things expands, Gargiulo is certain that VPNs will penetrate consumer security and privacy the same way antivirus products did in the early 2000s.
“Hackers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their approach, and with identity theft and data breaches at all-time highs, the old-school approach of hoping your WiFi is safe or thinking you have nothing to hide is obsolete and unhealthy,” Gargiulo explains.
“A protected identity depends on many factors, like VPN, antivirus and password management. Consumers are really starting to grasp this as the future of VPNs, privacy and security is very bright across the globe. I fully expect cybersecurity’s second largest industry, VPN, to grow three to five times in size over the next two years. We look forward to updating this infographic accordingly.”
