FOUNTAIN INN, S.C., Sept. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer and supplier of advanced electronic components and interconnect, sensor, control, and antenna solutions, is exhibiting and presenting a technical paper about bulkhead-mounted EMI filters at the 2018 Space Passive Component Days (SPCD) International Symposium, which is presented by the European Space Agency (ESA) and European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), and will take place October 9–12 in Noordwijk, The Netherlands.
Although only in its third year, the SPCD Symposium is already recognized as the premier technical conference dedicated to passive components for space applications thanks to a program designed to facilitate the exchange of high-level technical information about the latest industry advancements and trends between leading global experts in manufacturing, academia, and government agencies. SPCD 2018 will feature one day of pre-conference events, including workshops, a resistor seminar, an ESCC training course, and an ESA site tour, and three days of conference content, including oral presentations, a dedicated poster session, technical component introductions, private roadmap sessions, panel discussions, private business lunches and meetings, and an industrial exhibition.
AVX Fellow Ron Demcko and AVX Filters Engineering Manager Rhazy Edily will participate in the SPCD exhibition and will also present a paper entitled, “Miniaturization and Advances of Bulkhead-Mounted EMI Filters: Material, Process, and Design,” at 3:30pm on Thursday, October 11, as part of the New Developments conference track. The presentation will explain how advances in MLCC manufacturing have resulted in significant improvements in the voltage and capacitance capabilities of ever-smaller capacitor case sizes, and have also positively affected discoidal capacitors, which are used in most bulkhead-mounted EMI suppression filters. Discoidal capacitors can currently be manufactured with outer diameters as small as 0.050" with as much as 5,000pF of capacitance, have efficient equivalent models that enable effective insertion loss to 10GHz and beyond, and, with proper filter design and utilization, can enable high-performance filters that provide the significant space and weight savings that aerospace applications typically demand.
“Passive components represent more than 80% of the electrical, electronic, and electromechanical parts employed in spacecraft, so AVX is proud to support the continued advancement of the aerospace industry through the development of cutting-edge passive component solutions designed to meet this market’s stringent demands regarding reliability, performance, functionality, size, weight, and cost,” said AVX Fellow Ron Demcko.
