World’s First SOLIUS Device Available for Vancouver Residents

Patented technology brings revolutionary light science to Vancouver that provides the benefits of the sun, including vitamin D production, without the harmful UVA rays

Vancouver, British Columbia, Sept. 25, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SOLIUS, a BioTech company specializing in advanced light sciences, today launched a first-of-its-kind medical device named SOLIUS. SOLIUS uses targeted nano-spectrums of light to stimulate the body’s natural production of hormones for the treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiency. The SOLIUS device isolates a range of ultraviolet light that produces 10 times more vitamin D than the World Health Organization’s daily recommended sun exposure, which is 15-20 minutes a day, with 100 times less total ultraviolet exposure. The total ultraviolet exposure in a SOLIUS treatment session is equivalent to, on average, only 10 seconds in the midday sun.

The world’s first SOLIUS device launched in Vancouver to serve the needs of a population largely deficient of vitamin D due to both a lack of sunlight and the latitude of Canada, which does not allow for natural vitamin D production throughout the year. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, preterm labor, Alzheimer’s and depression, amongst other illnesses. Unlike vitamin D supplements taken orally, SOLIUS stimulates the production of vitamin D from exposure to UVB light in a process that is naturally regulated by the body. While some people are unable to absorb an oral vitamin D supplement, during the natural process stimulated by SOLIUS, a sufficient amount of vitamin D is delivered to the patient naturally.

“We are thrilled to launch our first SOLIUS in Vancouver, bringing a much-needed vitamin D treatment to residents across the city,” says SOLIUS CEO, Rick Hennessey. “The benefits of vitamin D are well researched and documented, and those benefits are felt greatly in a city that lacks the year-round sunlight required to produce sufficient vitamin D naturally. Eliminating vitamin D deficiency is important and it has been incredibly fulfilling to hear so many people say SOLIUS makes them feel good!”

The high-tech treatment combines a scientifically validated treatment with an enjoyable patient experience. Customers step into the pod-like device, and after closing and locking the door, they engage with a touchscreen monitor, choose entertainment and relax for two to six minutes, depending on skin type. Through a mobile application, users can find a location, add themselves to a waitlist for their nearest device, and even customize their experience.

“Vitamin D is a profoundly important component needed by our bodies for good health and healthy aging, and is particularly necessary for ensuring normal strong bone growth and fracture prevention,” said Dr. Alan Low, Primary Care Pharmacist at BioPro Biologics Pharmacy and Clinical Associate Professor, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia. “SOLIUS is a new way to get natural vitamin D for our bodies through exposure to the useful UV rays without exposure to the harmful effects of sunlight, and is a welcome option. SOLIUS will help normalize vitamin D levels for many people.”

SOLIUS was developed over eight years by a team of specialists, including several of the world’s top doctors and scientists, to ensure that the device meets safety and efficacy standards. SOLIUS received its Medical Device License from Health Canada in August 2018.

SOLIUS has launched at BioPro Biologics Pharmacy in Vancouver, B.C. and the company is slated to launch five new devices in Canada before the end of 2018. For more information, visit https://www.solius.ca
