Comedians Form New TV and Film Studio

TORONTO, Sept. 27, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Several of Canada’s best comedians have joined forces to create Home Invasion Studios, a new film and TV production company with a comedic edge to produce content across all platforms. Comedian, writer and director David Merry founded Home Invasion Studios after leaving another production company as Creative Director to establish a content house with a specialty in funny. He approached long-time comedy veteran pals, Tim Steeves and George Westerholm - formerly from the Rick Mercer Report, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, among other shows - to come on board.

“Sometimes a comedic project falls short because a part of the machine doesn’t fully understand some of the nuances of making people laugh,” said Merry. “Because our company is made up of comedy experts with many combined years in the entertainment industry, we can conceptualize, write, produce, direct, shoot, and edit everything ourselves. Whether it’s a movie or a television show, a YouTube series, commercial, or corporate training video, our clients come to us because we have complete comedic control over projects from start to finish.”

With an unprecedented need for sharp content these days, it was just a matter of time until a company like this was formed. All together, these comedy heavyweights bring with them six Gemini Awards, three Canadian Screen Awards, four Writers Guild Awards, one Rose d’Or Award for Excellence in Television (international), three Canadian Comedy Awards, and many, many other nominations.

The company just finished production of their first hour long comedy special, “Grandma Used to Heckle Me,” with comedian Jeff Leeson. Home Invasion Studios also recently optioned their first feature film, a horror believe it or not, to Wald Pictures in Hollywood with Humber College’s Professor of Comedy, Larry Horowitz. Projects in scripted, unscripted, reality and game shows are also in development. Merry said, “Everyone knows Canadians are funny, we’re about to drive that point home!”
