Electra Meccanica Debuts the SOLO Single-Passenger EV at the AltCar Expo in California

Company CEO delivers first SOLO vehicle in the United States to new owner and receives commendation from Canadian Consulate

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Electra Meccanica Vehicles Corp. (NASDAQ: SOLO) (“Electra Meccanica” or the “Company”), a designer and manufacturer of electric vehicles debuted its new EV single passenger car, the SOLO, to an enthusiastic Southern California audience on Friday, Oct. 12, and presented their first US owner with his new vehicle on Saturday (13th). The gathering of alt-energy thought leaders this past weekend in Santa Monica, CA, included civic dignitaries, educators, traffic and transportation officials, fleet managers, the media and thousands of consumers at the two-day event.

Anthony Luzi, Electra Meccanica’s Director of U.S. Operations, was featured on two panels. The first on Friday, moderated by motor critic, Sue Carpenter, was titled, “How Committed are OEMs to the EV movement”. This was followed by Saturday’s panel, moderated by Santa Monica Daily Press Editor, Matt Hall, focusing on “The State of the Industry for Single Passenger Transit”. As part of the event hundreds of attendees completed SOLO test-drive sign-up cards, while the Company received more than a dozen deposits on the SOLO and the Tofino.

“We’re extremely encouraged by the reception we received at the AltCar Expo, including car enthusiasts looking for the next-best thing in alt-energy transportation, to transit and fleet-management officials from institutions like Southern California Edison and UCLA who were very supportive of the SOLO,” stated Electra Meccanica’s Luzi. “The event organizers produced a comprehensive program and I was proud to represent Electra Meccanica on two highly relevant industry panels. I’m very proud to be helping introduce such a game-changing vehicle to such an enthusiastic market.”

The Consul & Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Consulate in Los Angeles, Patricia Elliott, attended the event on Friday (12th) to commend Electra Meccanica for their introduction of the newest Canadian export to the U.S., stating, “Electra Meccanica is yet another example of how Southern California and Canadian companies are working hand in hand on projects protecting the environment and combatting climate change with one common goal – A Greener Future!”. Jerry Kroll, Electra Meccanica CEO, who received the accolade, responded by saying, “We are so encouraged by our strong reception, and we’re emboldened by the incredible support we’re seeing from the public. It’s a thrill to be amongst such a vibrant crowd, seeing such a robust response to the debut of the SOLO.”

On Saturday (13th) the second day of the Expo, Joe Cabrera, one of the earliest supporters of Electra Meccanica’s vision to produce and sell a single-passenger EV, was presented with the first U.S. SOLO, after having sent in his deposit more than a year ago. As the first recipient of the SOLO, Cabrera commented, “It’s great to see a company of car people who are passionate about protecting our planet. Jerry and his team are helping to reduce the congestion on our roads and also helping to lessen our dependency on gasoline. I am honored to be the first SOLO owner in the United States.”

Electra Meccanica is opening their first U.S. dealership at 11685 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, CA 91604.
