Calgary 2026 Ramps Up Engagement Ahead of November 13th Vote

Olympians, Paralympians, Business and Indigenous Leaders will Blanket Stampede City Ensuring Calgarians are Informed Heading into Plebiscite

Calgary, Nov. 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CALGARY–  With a week to go until the November 13th vote on a bid for the Calgary 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Calgary 2026 Bid Corporation (BidCo) is ramping up opportunities for citizens to learn about the bid and make an informed decision for Canada’s Games, Calgary’s choice.

The Calgary 2026 engagement team will be hosting, attending or speaking at over 40 events throughout the city in the next week. These will range from meeting university students on campus and pop up booths at malls to discussions with corporate Calgary and small business owners.

“The Olympics and Paralympic Games will last 50 days, but the legacy will be generational,” said Susan Veres, Calgary 2026 BidCo. “The Games will improve our sustainability practices, create the most accessible city in North America, promote active and healthy living in our community, and give Albertans and Canadians world-class sport facilities for generations to come.”

Calgary 2026 will be hosting a free family event at the Olympic Oval featuring Canada’s Olympians and Paralympians. Hundreds of people are expected to attend the event, which will run from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on November 10, 2018.

In the six weeks since the release of the Draft Hosting Plan Concept on September 11th, the Calgary 2026 engagement team has participated in 200 plus events, spoken ‘directly’ with over 10,000 Calgarians, and through advertising and social campaigns made six million impressions. The community engagement report, titled Six Weeks in the Community, highlights the views of Calgarians and the organizations’ outreach initiatives.

Outreach and engagement will continue through all phases of the Games process, and beyond, if Calgary wins the bid to host the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
