SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Nov. 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Fernando Olivarez, 23, of San Bernardino, works passionately to raise awareness to the disability community to highlight the unique perspective that disabled youth can bring to the table. Olivarez serves as the leader of SoCal Posse, a youth advocacy group based out of San Bernardino.

As member of the disability community, Olivarez continues to spread his message to the Inland Empire. “I help people with different abilities,” Olivarez said.  “I hope to inform them about different resources that...give peace of mind and quality of life.”

SoCal Posse is a national initiative centered in San Bernardino to give resources to youth with disabilities and inform the general public about the history of disability rights.

SoCal Posse emphasizes a successful transition for disabled from high school into college and the general workforce. This transition is done through personal interaction, telling personal stories, interactive activities, and informing others about the resources and agencies available in San Bernardino and surrounding areas.

Having the community engaged to become involved with the disabled community is one of Olivarez’s main objectives and goals, as a contributing member of his hometown community.

Olivarez hopes to continue to inspire San Bernardino youth through his message. “The reason I want to continue to do this is because I am hoping the next generation of kids can take the wheel and go even further than me.”
