Upcoming Holiday Feasts Can Put a Strain on Household Appliances, According to Safeware

Extended use of appliances can lead to costly repairs after the holiday season.

Dublin, Ohio, Nov. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As the holiday season quickly approaches, many people start planning for their upcoming gatherings and meals. Common spreads include turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and numerous other seasonal treats. However, the holidays can put a strain on consumers’ kitchen appliances. Safeware, a leading provider of product protection and extended warranty solutions, decided to investigate more about how holiday festivities can affect household appliances.

Safeware’s historic claims data reveals that after the holiday season, there is a spike in appliance-related claims. This can be credited to the frequency and duration of use these products undergo in the preceding months.

A Safeware customer in Florida gathered his family to spend Thanksgiving Day together. He spent hours in the morning prepping the turkey and sides to be ready by the time everyone arrived. When he went to pull the turkey out of the oven to start dinner, it was still cold! His oven’s heating element had malfunctioned, and would have cost him over $300 out-of-pocket to repair on his own.

Another customer in Wisconsin was having a small holiday get-together with his coworkers on a chilly December night. For dessert, he decided to bake a pie. Far before the timer for the pie went off, the customer noticed a burning smell. The pie had burned after barely being in the oven! His oven’s temperature sensor broke, costing over $500 to repair.

Ovens prove to be the second most expensive type of household appliance to repair or replace, just behind french-door refrigerators. As seen above, common parts that malfunction are the temperature sensor and heating element. On average, ovens experience around a 15% frequency of breaking down during the first five years of ownership. This can be incredibly inconvenient, especially when the malfunction occurs before a large gathering.

“The end of the year is full of fun, holiday festivities. This includes numerous opportunities for families and friends to spend time together over a home-cooked meal,” says Safeware’s Chief Executive Officer, Bryan Schutjer. “However, this puts household appliances under additional strain which can lead to unplanned repairs. Fortunately, Safeware provides comprehensive product protection on household appliances to ensure they remain functional through the holiday season.”

Having loved ones over is a great way to celebrate the season, but this can also cause additional wear and tear to washing machines, dishwashers, and other household appliances. Safeware is proud to provide Product Protection Plans specifically designed for appliances, allowing customers to own their products with confidence.
