Clarkston State Bank Backroads Race Raises Funds for Disaster Relief At Work (DRAW) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

CLARKSTON, Mich., Dec. 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As part of its ongoing mission and commitment to supporting the regional Michigan community, Clarkston State Bank (CSB) today announced that its 6th Annual Backroads Half Marathon, 10km & 5km Race raised $6,000 for two local community organizations.

The proceeds from the race will benefit DRAW, a local organization that provides relief services to communities hit by natural disasters, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to fund research to treat and defeat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

With over 1,000 registrations for the November 11, 2018 race, the runners, walkers and other participants made their way along a course that featured a mixture of trails, hills, back roads and wood bridges through Independence Oaks County Park in Clarkston, MI.

Over the past six years sponsoring the race, CSB has been able to draw thousands of participants to compete and exercise while raising over $31,000 for local organizations.

“Over the years the Backroads Race has provided funds to several organizations who rely on donations to fund their programs,” stated J. Grant Smith, President & CEO.  “We are proud to partner with both DRAW and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with the proceeds from the 2018 race”.

Disaster Relief at Work (DRAW)  was started in 2011 by a local Clarkston resident who answered the call to provide support when a tornado hit Alabama. Greg Martin and a dozen of his friends went to Alabama to help quickly realizing that the people who had lost everything did not see themselves as victims but as survivors.  It was with this spirit that DRAW was born.  Since that date in 2011, anytime a natural disaster hits, the DRAW team goes into action to help the survivors return to normalcy.

St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital’s mission is to advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.  No child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.  A majority of the funding for the hospital comes from generous donors.  Overall the years St. Jude has helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more that 80%.  Their mission is “Finding Cures, Saving Children”.

Headquartered in Southeast Michigan, CSB has a history of helping the businesses, people and organizations located throughout Michigan.  Backroads race information, results and details can be found on the race website.

Clarkston State Bank opened in January 1999 and operates two branches in Clarkston and Waterford, Michigan.
