Corizon Health to Partner With the State of Maryland

Transition to occur New Year’s Day

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Dec. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Corizon Health will be ringing in the New Year with a contract to provide inmate healthcare services to the State of Maryland.

The five-year contract was approved Wednesday by the Maryland Board of Public Contracting and commences January 1, 2019.

Corizon Health CEO Steve Rector, who left the hospital industry to become Corizon Health’s CEO in December 2017, said the award reflects positively on last year’s reorganization of the company and its commitment to always doing the right thing for its patients and partners.

“Since day one my message to everyone in our company is that if we always do the right thing for our patients and our partners, our business will take care of itself,” Rector said.

Being selected as the healthcare provider for the Maryland Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services, a former Corizon Health client, sends an important signal that the company’s efforts are being recognized.

“Having recently established an incredibly strong leadership team with deep healthcare experience, a new Board of Directors, and strong financials, this news could not come at a better time,” Rector said. “It is our honor and our privilege to serve the State of Maryland once again and deliver care to those patients in need.”

Corizon Health has been preparing for a smooth transition from the state’s current medical provider since the state announced in 2017, that Corizon Health submitted the top-ranking proposal for a five-year contract to provide medical services to almost 22,000 inmates located in 25 facilities throughout Maryland.

“We will be ready to go on January 1st, and are committed to ensuring a seamless transition for patients and employees,” Rector said. “We trust the outgoing provider will share this commitment.”

In addition to adding new positions, Corizon Health expects to hire substantially all of the employees of the current contractor and already has begun working to introduce them to the company, answer their questions and assist them with required paperwork.

“We value healthcare professionals who share our mission to deliver care to the incarcerated patient population,” Rector said. “Our goal is to do everything we can to keep them in their positions and provide them with the tools, training and support they need to provide high-quality compassionate care.”
