Hanmi Financial Corporation Announces Additional Share Repurchase Program

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 24, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hanmi Financial Corporation (the “Company”) (NASDAQ: HAFC), the holding company for Hanmi Bank (the “Bank”), announced today that its Board of Directors has adopted a new stock repurchase program.  Under the current repurchase program, the Company may repurchase up to 5% of its outstanding shares or approximately 1.5 million shares of its common stock. In August 2018, the Bank authorized a stock repurchase plan of up to 5%, or 1.6 million shares, which was completed during the fourth quarter of 2018 and previously reported.

“Hanmi is committed to maximizing shareholder value, and we feel that today’s announcement is a positive step towards this goal,” said C. G. Kum, Chief Executive Officer. “This is the second repurchase program authorized by the bank in the past six months. We continue to believe the current market value of our stock is not indicative of Hanmi’s long-term intrinsic value and the adoption of a new repurchase program is a timely and appropriate use of our capital resources.”

The repurchase program permits shares to be repurchased in open market or private transactions, through block trades, and pursuant to any trading plan that may be adopted in accordance with Rule 10b5-1 of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Repurchases will be made at management’s discretion at prices management considers to be attractive and in the best interests of both the Company and its stockholders, subject to the availability of stock, general market conditions, the trading price of the stock, alternative uses for capital, and the Company’s financial performance.

The repurchase program may be suspended, terminated or modified at any time for any reason, including market conditions, the cost of repurchasing shares, the availability of alternative investment opportunities, liquidity, and other factors deemed appropriate. These factors may also affect the timing and amount of share repurchases.  The repurchase program does not obligate the Company to purchase any particular number of shares.
