COACHELLA, Calif., Feb. 21, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians and Spotlight 29 Casino have donated $50,000 to the 9th Annual Warburton Celebrity Golf Tournament, benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and its mission to treat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Taking place Thursday, February 28th through Sunday, March 3rd at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, CA, the tournament and live music showcase will feature more than 75 actors, athletes, celebrities and rock legends.
“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, and for more than 50 years St. Jude has generously provided treatment and services for families — regardless of their ability to pay,” said Tribal Chairman Darrell Mike. “The Tribe is proud to contribute to this ongoing effort by underwriting one of its most successful annual fundraisers, The Warburton, which takes place right here in our backyard. We believe no family should have to face cancer alone.”
Founded in 2011, The Warburton is the highest grossing golf tournament for St. Jude nationwide, having raised more than $9.8 million to date. The tournament’s namesake host, actor Patrick Warburton, is perhaps best known for playing Puddy on “Seinfeld” and starring on the syndicated sitcom “Rules of Engagement.”
Scheduled to appear at this year’s event are: classic rocker Alice Cooper, Alex Lifeson of Rush, Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, Mike Mills of R.E.M., country star Gretchen Wilson, “Breaking Bad” actor Jonathan Banks, singer-actor Christian Kane, and many others.
