Mission Announces Exhibition and Sponsorship at GDC 2019

Managed AWS provider comes to GDC for the first time; will have AWS solution architects on hand to discuss how to optimize cloud environments for game tech use cases

SAN FRANCISCO, March 13, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mission, a managed services and consulting company for Amazon Web Services (AWS), today announced its first-ever sponsorship and participation at GDC 2019. Mission will be exhibiting at Booth P1814, where the company will have AWS solution architects available to discuss how Mission works with game tech companies to optimize their AWS environments for higher performance and lower cost.

The annual Game Developers Conference – held March 18-22, 2019 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco – is the world’s largest event for professionals in the game industry.

Mission will be joined at GDC by clients Autumn Games, a global video game publisher known for publishing Skullgirls and other popular cross-platform titles, and Hidden Variable Studios, a game developer with which Autumn Games works closely. A newly published case study – available here – details how Mission enabled Autumn Games and Hidden Variable Studios (which uses Autumn Games’ infrastructure for work they collaborate on) to effectively leverage Docker on AWS. Mission serves these and other game tech companies as a trusted and supportive partner, providing 24/7 on-call expertise and incident-free operations that allows technical staff to fully focus on game development, and is counted on to implement and support its AWS infrastructure expansions into the future.

“We’ve recently experienced rapid customer growth in the game tech industry, as more companies get word of how our cloud experts enable them to realize AWS’ full potential,” said Keith Archer, Chief Cloud Officer at Mission (who joined the company after serving as a VP at Activision Blizzard). “Our goal is to allow our clients to focus on what they do best: developing games and leaving AWS management, scaling, and optimization to us. In the wake of this growth, we’re excited to be attending GDC for the first time and meeting with more game tech businesses.”

“Mission has been an incredibly powerful partner for our game development studio,” Charley Price, Co-founder and Creative Director, Hidden Variable Studios. “For our production pipeline using Docker on AWS, we needed the capability to use Amazon ECS and scale by standing up EC2 machines when traffic is high, and then destroy them when low. Mission provided the expertise we sought, setting up that ability to scale as well as create deployment pipelines within our specifications. We continue to work with them as a trusted partner delivering much-needed – and very hands-on – AWS expertise.”

GDC attendees interested in hearing what prompted Hidden Variable Studios to turn to Mission should attend Failure Workshop 2019, where Price will discuss how a mixup of game user data prompted an overhaul of their managed AWS provider strategy. The Failure Workshop takes place in room 2005 in the West Hall, on Tuesday, March 19 from 11:20am-12:20pm.
