Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak to Visit HPU


High Point, North Carolina, April 08, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Who: Steve Wozniak, High Point University’s Innovator in Residence, HPU students and faculty. Media are invited to attend.

What: Apple Co-Founder and HPU’s Innovator in Residence Steve Wozniak will return to campus to mentor students. 

When: Tuesday, April 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Where: Various locations across campus. 

Why: Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder and HPU’s Innovator in Residence, will return to HPU’s campus to participate in an interactive Q&A session with HPU President Nido Qubein, where the HPUMinds group will reveal the self-driving golf cart and demonstrate the cart in action.

When Wozniak joined HPU as Innovator in Residence in 2016, he began working with a team of HPU students to build a self-driving vehicle. Since then, Wozniak has met with those students to continue their work on what is now known as the “Woz Project.” 

Tuesday’s visit will include: 

11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – HPU President Nido Qubein, Wozniak and students from HPUMinds will be joined for an Innovation Summit in Congdon Hall’s Callicutt Auditorium. The group will present an overview of the self-driving cart and demonstrate the cart in action. Wozniak will also participate in a Q&A session with Dr. Michael Oudshoorn, founding dean of HPU’s Webb School of Engineering.

1:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. – Wozniak will participate in an open meet and greet in Cottrell Hall’s Mestdagh Commons sponsored by HPU’s Freshman Success Coaches.
