Two additional Spanish centers announce adoption of the Xoft System, totaling seven installations across four major regions in Spain
Internationally-recognized institutions strengthen portfolio of comprehensive cancer care solutions with iCAD’s state-of-the-art electronic brachytherapy technology
NASHUA, N.H., April 15, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- iCAD, Inc. (NASDAQ: ICAD), a global medical technology leader providing innovative cancer detection and therapy solutions, today announced that the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), a leading, multi-center cancer organization in Spain, has selected iCAD as the provider of electronic brachytherapy technology for the treatment of early-stage breast cancer and gynecological cancers. ICO will introduce iCAD’s Xoft® Axxent® Electronic Brachytherapy (eBx®) System® at three hospitals located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Badalona, and Girona, Spain.
In addition, New Cáceres Hospital in Cáceres and Obispo Polanco Hospital in Teruel have also adopted the Xoft System for the treatment of early-stage breast cancer, gynecological cancers, and non-melanoma skin cancer. The deals were completed in partnership with Aplicaciones Tecnológicas S.A., the distributor of the Xoft System in Spain.
With the addition of these facilities, Xoft treatments will now be available at seven Spanish hospitals, including Hospital Universitario Miguel Servet in Zaragoza and Hospital Clinico Universitario in Salamanca, providing cancer treatment services in four of the most densely populated regions of Spain: Catalonia, Aragon, Castile and León, and Extremadura.

ICO will offer Xoft treatments at ICO L’Hospitalet – Bellvitge University Hospital, ICO Badalona – Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital and ICO Girona – Doctor Josep Trueta University Hospital. With an established network of partnerships throughout the region, ICO serves as the referral center for 60 percent of the adult population in Catalonia. Following the Comprehensive Cancer Centre model defined by the European Organization of Cancer Institutes, ICO takes an integrated, full-service approach to cancer care including prevention, care, specialized training, and research. The Xoft System is a proprietary electronic brachytherapy platform designed to deliver isotope-free (non-radioactive) radiation therapy.
