Sleeman Breweries Earns a Coveted Spot Among Canada’s Greenest Employers.

GUELPH, Ontario, April 15, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On the heels of the recent launch of Sleeman Breweries’ Environmental Sustainability Program, the brewer has garnered another coveted award, becoming one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2019.

Presented annually, the Canada’s Greenest Employers designation is given to organizations that are leaders in building a strong culture of environmental awareness and developing sustainability initiatives that are attracting people to their organizations.

The company was also recently recognized as Canada’s first 3RCertified brewery, achieving a Gold level standing with the Recycling Council of Ontario and has also been awarded a position on Waterloo Region’s Top Employers for 2019.

“We’re extremely proud of our commitment to sustainability,” says Dave Klaassen, VP of Operations & Logistics, Sleeman Breweries. “As an organization we have managed to significantly minimize our environmental impact and we will continue to look for new and better ways of brewing our beers in the most environmentally responsible way possible.”

For years Sleeman Breweries has focused its efforts on green initiatives such as large-scale waste reduction, water conservation, energy-consumption measures, and brewing by-product management. Some of the company’s recent successes include:

  • Long-term organizational commitment and strategy for sustainability practices, including annual goal setting and planning.
  • Tracking and measurement of all waste-reduction initiatives via third-party audits.
  • Achievement of an overall solid-waste diversion rate of 98% at its Guelph brewery.
