The Melting Pot Announces Sustainability Efforts in Celebration of Earth Day

Leading Fondue Restaurant Partners with Sustainable Focused Suppliers as Part of Exceptional Food Initiative

Tampa, Fla., April 22, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, in celebration of Earth Day, The Melting Pot® Restaurants, Inc., the world’s premier fondue restaurant and a leading polished casual dining franchise, announced the company’s efforts to offer sustainably sourced ingredients and establish environmentally-friendly restaurant practices.

As part of The Melting Pot’s Exceptional Food Initiative, the restaurant offers the highest quality, premium ingredients for guests to interactively experience. It is this concentrated focus on exceptional foods that led The Melting Pot to recently partner with Cacao-Trace®, to bring sustainably sourced cocoa to their chocolate fondue. Cacao-Trace helps cocoa farmers earn a sustainable living through the Next Generation Cacao Foundation and focuses on the post-harvest fermentation of cocoa beans to produce superior tasting chocolate.

From farm to fondue, The Melting Pot also brings the highest quality cheddar cheese blend to the restaurant’s artisan cheese fondue through their partnership with Kindred Creamery®. Based in Wisconsin, Kindred Creamery focuses on quality ingredients and keeping their cows happy. Their one-of-a-kind Cows First™ program recognizes farmers’ hard work and respect for their herds and allows them to treat their cows like family. Well-treated cows produce the highest standard of milk, which in turn produces superior cheese in a sustainable manner.

“We are proud to provide our guests exceptional ingredients in an engaging atmosphere,” said Jason Miller, Corporate Chef for The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. “As we continue with our Exceptional Food Initiative, we have been working with our suppliers on increasing the quality, variety and sustainability of our ingredients.”

In 2018, The Melting Pot’s long-time cheesemaker, Emmi Roth®, a leading producer of specialty cheese, initiated a solar panel installation in their Platteville, Wisconsin plant.  The solar panels supply 15 percent of the annual electric use of the cheese making plant and will reduce 14,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions from the environment. This is equal to saving 1.4 million gallons of gas, recycling 43,000 tons of waste or reducing coal usage by 13 million pounds.

The Melting Pot also offers all-natural and antibiotic free proteins and sustainably harvested seafood, including shrimp, lobster, tuna and salmon.

Partnering with suppliers who are focused on reducing their carbon footprint is one way The Melting Pot is focused on advocating sustainable practices. Beginning this year, locations across the country are helping to reduce landfill and protect the planet by using their remaining inventory of straws, then moving to offer environmentally-friendly paper straws.

The Melting Pot has more than 105 restaurants in 31 U.S. states, Canada, Mexico and The Middle East. Additionally, there are more than 17 international locations in development. The concept is known for offering an assortment of flavorful fondue cooking styles, including the new grill cooking style and a variety of unique entrées served with signature dipping sauces.
