Newly Supported Switches Leverage Pica8’s Cloud-Based Nymble™ Automation Framework for Simplifying Enterprise Access/Campus Switch Deployments

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 24, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pica8, a leading provider of automated open networking software solutions for enterprise campus and access networks, today announced that it has ported its popular Linux-based PICOS® network operating system (NOS) to new Dell EMC open networking aggregation switches that are designed to replace expensive legacy-vendor chassis switches with a modern, intelligent open networking infrastructure. Included in this Pica8 portfolio expansion are the Dell EMC Z9264F-ON, S5248F-ON, and S4128F-ON campus aggregation switches and the Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), PoE+ and 60-watt PoE N3024EP-ON access switch.

The S5248F-ON is the first open networking switch supported by Pica8 that is based on Broadcom’s latest Trident 3 switching silicon. With PICOS as the switch OS, the S5248F-ON can now be deployed as a powerful, next-generation campus aggregation switch that collects and processes traffic from remote Dell EMC N3000 Series open networking access switches located in branch offices and/or retail stores.

When Dell EMC’s open networking access switches, such as N3024EP-ONs mentioned above or N3132PX-ON 2.5G/5G Multigig switches, are also running PICOS, the bundled Pica8 Nymble automation framework software that comes with PICOS can remotely activate, configure and manage the lifecycle of all deployed Dell EMC campus and access switches in a network at the push of a button.
