The Urban League & Jobcase Launch New Tech Resource to Increase Residents’ Access to Jobs

New tools empower job seekers to connect to jobs and employers, and support nonprofit with additional revenue and better workforce data

BOSTON, May 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts (ULEM), a hundred year old civil rights organization that engages employers to diversify the workforce, and Jobcase, a social platform for the “future of work,” today announced the launch of a new, joint online job portal that increases access to jobs and career support for Boston residents. The new portal brings job search and community support directly into the ULEM.org website.

“Partnering with Jobcase on this employment portal project is critical for the marketplace,” said Darnell L. Williams, President/CEO, Urban League of Eastern MA. “It helps us directly to achieve our ultimate goal. That objective is to bring a diverse and inclusive talent pool into the workforce. Companies have relied on us to meet their hiring needs for 100 years. Our partnership with Jobcase allows the Urban League to use technology to connect the community and our employer partners in a significant way.”

The new portal (https://www.jobcase.com/ulem), donated by Jobcase and developed jointly with ULEM, supports residents, employers, and the nonprofit itself:

- For residents, it provides local job search, instant-apply tools, and a dedicated online community for advice and support.
- For employers that partner with ULEM, it offers an opportunity to feature their open jobs and to engage directly with job seekers in the local community.
- For ULEM itself, the portal generates aggregated, anonymous job search metrics that give them a better understanding of job needs in their community.

In addition to donating the development of the portal to ULEM, Jobcase is also processing employer sponsorships for ULEM, thus creating a new, sustainable source of support for their programs.

“Jobcase firmly believes we are ‘stronger together’,” said Fred Goff, founder and CEO of Jobcase. “It is an honor for us to work directly with the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts to prove this point, as we come together to help people not just navigate the future-of-work but to thrive within it. ULEM has been a beacon of empowerment for 100 years, and we are proud to now provide our technology and community to help them, employers, and local residents accelerate mutual success in the coming years.”

Miceal Chamberlain, Massachusetts President of Bank of America stated, “This is part of the company’s commitment to being a great place to work and delivering sustainable, responsible growth through competitive benefits and programs that support the diverse needs of its 205,000+ employees. Bank of America recently announced that it will raise its minimum wage to $20 per hour over a two-year period. By hiring from the communities we serve and helping our teammates develop their careers at the bank, we are helping our clients – and employees – lead better financial lives. Partners such as the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts help us hire from the communities we serve, such as Dudley Square, and across all Boston’s vibrant neighborhoods.”

“For more than 200 years, we have been there to help individuals, families, and our business clients pursue their goals and dreams,” said Quincy Miller, Vice Chair and President of Eastern Bank, and past Board Chair of the Urban League of Massachusetts. “The Urban League’s commitment to helping people improve their lives and build stronger communities speaks to Eastern’s passionate belief that all people deserve an opportunity for prosperity. We thank the entire Urban League team for their focus on workforce development in our communities, and are proud to help sponsor this new platform and a diverse and inclusive workforce.”
