Sunderland Co-op kicks-off big expansion at new site in Peterborough region

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario, May 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sunderland Co-operative Inc. celebrates the opening of its new location and expansion with an official ribbon cutting ceremony taking place at 2182 Keene Rd, Otonabee at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow (May 15).

The co-operative’s new 12.8-acre property (located just outside of Peterborough) is the first phase of a multi-phase expansion. The new 8,000 sq. ft. facility on site, features a diverse and comprehensive retail farm supply store and a large-capacity feed warehouse operation.

“Our strategy is to build the site into a multifaceted facility that will provide expertise along with quality products and services in all our core businesses of agronomy, energy, grain marketing, and feed and retail farm supply,” says Urs Kressibucher, Sunderland Co-operative president.

“The Sunderland Co-operative board of directors has a clear vision for the future of this site that will continue to be developed as opportunities arise,” says Kressibucher. “We want to be able to provide The Whole Farm Plan experience to area farmers by delivering everything they need from seed to harvest to run a successful, prosperous and sustainable operation.”

Sunderland Co-operative operates as an agriculture centered company that includes a large livestock feed division that has helped area farmers grow and maintain healthy livestock for almost 70 years. The new retail store will offer an improved and diverse selection of products and services for farm, home and hardware, and lawn and garden needs.

“This move will help us grow our business and give our Peterborough area members and customers an improved product and services experience,” says Sunderland Co-operative general manager Jake Vancuren. “The location is not only much easier to locate but also allows for easy access to Hwy 7.”

Local dignitaries and government officials are expected to say a few words during the grand opening ceremonies at 3:00 p.m. A barbecue dinner will follow from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
