American Consumers Are Not a National Security Threat

Statement by John Bozzella, President and CEO of Global Automakers and spokesperson for Here For America

Washington DC,, May 17, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- “Last year eight million Americans decided an imported vehicle was the best choice for their families.  The Commerce Department has concluded that their decisions ‘threaten to impair the national security of the United States.’ This is absurd.

“International automakers develop and build more than half of the vehicles made in America each year.  An American engineer working for a ‘foreign’ auto company in Michigan is no more of a national security threat than an American engineer working for an ‘American-owned’ auto company in Michigan.

“No one in the industry has asked for tariffs or other ‘protection’ from the government.  Since the Commerce Department believes that millions of American consumers and auto workers are a national security threat, they should publicly release their report.”
