La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company Receives Positive CHMP Opinion for GIAPREZA™ (angiotensin II) for the Treatment of Refractory Hypotension in Adults with Septic or Other Distributive Shock

SAN DIEGO, June 28, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company (Nasdaq: LJPC), a leader in the discovery, development and commercialization of innovative therapies intended to significantly improve outcomes in patients suffering from life-threatening diseases, today announced that the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) adopted a positive opinion for La Jolla’s Marketing Authorisation Application (MAA) for GIAPREZA™ (angiotensin II) for the treatment of refractory hypotension in adults with septic or other distributive shock.

“With the CHMP’s adoption of a positive opinion for the Marketing Authorisation Application for GIAPREZA, we are one step closer to bringing this new treatment option to the many critically ill patients suffering from septic or other distributive shock in Europe,” said George F. Tidmarsh, M.D., Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of La Jolla.

The CHMP’s positive opinion is based on data from the ATHOS-3 (Angiotensin II for the Treatment of High-Output Shock) Phase 3 study, which established the safety and efficacy of GIAPREZA in adults with septic or other distributive shock. The CHMP’s positive opinion will now be sent to the European Commission, which has the authority to approve medicines for the 28 European Union member countries. Approval would also be recognized in Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein.
