Tiidal Gaming Group’s Competitive Gaming Division, Lazarus Esports, Wins US$3.5 Million at the Fortnite World Cup

Lazarus is Now the #1 Ranked Canadian Esports Team


TORONTO, July 29, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lazarus Esports, a wholly owned division of Tiidal Gaming Group, competed at the Fortnite World Cup in New York City this past weekend. With six players representing the team, Lazarus clinched second place in the duos and fourth place in the solo portion of the tournament. Lazarus is now the number one ranked Canadian team and a top twenty-five team worldwide.

Taking place Saturday, July 27 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City, the Fortnite tournament saw 40 million players compete to land one of 200 spots. The World Cup duo tournament hosted 50 teams and the solo tournament hosted 100 single players for a total prize pool of US$30 million, the largest at the time in esports.

Lazarus Esports’ Fortnite team members David Jong, AKA “Rojo”, and Jaden Ashman, AKA “Wolfiez”, competed in the duo category of the tournament and climbed into second place in the final, winning a US$2.25 million prize.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, July 28, fellow team member Nate Kou, AKA “Kreo”, secured a fourth place finish in the solo tournament at the Fortnite World Cup, taking home a US$1.05 million cash prize.

The remaining members of the Lazarus team competed and collectively took home US$200,000.

Jong, age 20 from Andijk, Netherlands, said of his second place win, “This was an incredible opportunity to play against North American-style players”. His team partner Ashman, age 15, from London, England added, “It’s all about passion for the game”.

Kou, age 18 from Parkland, Florida, said, “Playing on this level has been huge and such a rush. It’s even better being able to share this with teammates.”
