Corbion's 10th Year Supporting Harvesters to be Biggest Ever

Employees from company’s Lenexa and Grandview locations will pack more than 11,000 boxes of holiday meals to feed KC Metro families at Thanksgiving.

Harvesters—The Community Food Network will host more than 100 Corbion employees on Thursday, Oct. 17, when they will pack the ingredients of a traditional holiday meal for thousands of families across the metro area.

It will be the tenth consecutive year that the company and its area employees have given their time, money and effort to make a difference for their neighbors in need. Last year, Corbion employees packed more than 10,000 boxes of food just before the Thanksgiving holiday in Grandview, where the company operates a warehousing and distribution center. With Harvesters agreeing to host the “Pack It Up for Harvesters” event this year, organizers expect to top that result by preparing more than 11,000 holiday boxes in an estimated 3-hour period.

The special packing event will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Harvesters location at 3801 Topping Ave. in Kansas City, Mo. Media are welcome to see this amazing packing event.

“The team at Corbion feels a very special connection to the tremendous work of the Harvesters organization,” said Andy Muller, executive vice president Ingredient Solutions at Corbion. “Our business plays an important role in helping to feed people all over the world, but it means a lot to us to help have a more direct impact in our own community.”

“We are extremely grateful for Corbion’s dedication and commitment to easing hunger in our community,” said Valerie Nicholson-Watson, president and CEO of Harvesters. “The holiday boxes they pack include all the side dishes a family would enjoy during the special holiday meal. We so appreciate them proving more than 11,000 holiday boxes this year.”

Corbion employees will be joined in the effort by other food industry players based in the Kansas City area, including representatives from Sosland Publishing and BEMA (Baker Equipment Manufacturers and Allieds).

With North American regional headquarters in Lenexa, Kan., Corbion is a global ingredient solutions provider that has been part of the Kansas City business landscape for nearly a century. The company’s annual fund drive combines employees’ monetary contributions with a corporate gift to purchase food donations, which Harvesters distributes to the hungry across the metropolitan area during the holidays. Since 2011, through its support of Harvesters Food Bank, Corbion has provided well over 280,000 meals to Kansas City area families in need.
