DNA Plc: Jukka Leinonen appointed new Nordic cluster head for Telenor Group

DNA PLC STOCK EXCHANGE RELEASE 1 NOVEMBER 2019, 8:05 am (EEST)

DNA's CEO Jukka Leinonen has been appointed head of Telenor Group’s Nordic cluster and a member of Telenor’s Group Executive Management. He will continue in his role as CEO of DNA in addition to his new responsibilities.

Part of his new role is to act as the chair of Telenor Sweden and Telenor Denmark. He will report directly to Sigve Brekke, the President & CEO of Telenor Group.

- Jukka Leinonen is a long-term telco leader with more than 30 years in the ICT industry. He has been instrumental in making DNA into the successful business it is today. Leinonen’s growth mindset and experience from the Finnish market is perfect for leading the Nordic cluster and for joining Telenor Group’s management, says Sigve Brekke, President & CEO, Telenor Group.

Leinonen has worked at DNA since 2010. He joined DNA as Senior Vice President, Corporate Business and was appointed CEO of DNA in 2013. Before that he held various senior management positions in corporate business sales, marketing and product management at TeliaSonera.

- I am honoured to head the new Nordic cluster and look forward to further developing Telenor Group’s position in the region through strengthened collaboration between the Nordic Telenor companies. I see great potential for cooperation in better roaming for customers, developing the B2B segment in the cluster, 5G and IoT, says Jukka Leinonen.

Co-operation on Nordic level

The Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor became DNA’s principal shareholder with a 54 per cent ownership on 21 August. Telenor commenced a mandatory tender offer for the remaining DNA shares on 29 August.  On 26 September, Telenor published its intention to extend the tender offer period until 10 October. As a result of the extended tender offer period Telenor owns circa 98 per cent of DNA and has announced that it will commence mandatory redemption proceedings for the remaining shares under the Finnish Companies Act to redeem the remaining DNA shares.

The acquisition of DNA has further strengthened Telenor’s position in the Nordic countries. It has been a strong operator in its native Norway and also in Sweden and Denmark. Telenor is developing the co-operation of its business units in this area by having recently formed a new Nordic cluster which concentrates on enabling synergies, driving growth and creating value for the customers across the region.
