Altran’s DCSG Network Operating System Added to TIP’s Open Optical & Packet Transport Group Ecosystem

Proven network operating system in powering disaggregated architectures for 4G LTE and 5G transport

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, Nov. 13, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TIP SUMMIT – Continuing its path to providing solutions based on open specifications and the disaggregation of hardware and software, Altran today announced its participation in an initiative of the Telecom Infrastructure Project (TIP) Open Optical & Packet Transport group. Through this newest collaboration, Altran’s disaggregated cell site gateway (DCSG) network operating system (NOS) will support the project’s DCSG-compliant hardware platforms. This deepens Altran’s relationship with TIP, the community founded to collaborate on new technologies to accelerate the pace of innovation in network infrastructure.

Altran’s DCSG NOS supports white-box cell site gateway devices based on the open TIP DCSG specifications for existing 4G LTE and future 5G mobile infrastructure. By building its DCSG offering with open specifications and hardware/software disaggregation, Altran enables OEMs to accelerate product development and for operators to innovate service offerings with an expanded vendor ecosystem.

This solution is built on Altran’s Intelligent Switching Solution (ISS), a comprehensive, feature rich, portable multiplatform software framework that has been powering numerous OEM products deployed on operator networks for over two decades. The DCSG supports the full range of L2, advanced L2, routing, MPLS and segment routing for SDN support, along with timing and synchronization. The solution is currently available on Edgecore Networks’ AS731x family powered by Broadcom StrataDNX Qumran-AX platforms and in the future on Edgecore Qumran-UX platforms.

“Altran’s relationship with TIP and Edgecore continues to deepen, strengthening the options that operators worldwide have as they deploy 5G networks, which require capacity and connectivity upgrades and support for exponential growth in backhaul network traffic,” said Brian Bronson, President of Platform and Solutions at Altran. “With DCSG, Altran provides a breadth of solutions spanning 5G radio, core and fronthaul/backhaul transport.”

In addition to the Open Optical & Packet Transport group, Altran is also a key contributor to several other TIP groups, including those focused on Solutions Integration, vRAN Fronthaul, OpenRAN, OpenCellular and Edge Application Developer.

Luis MartinGarcia, Co-lead of TIP’s OOPT initiative on DCSG, said: “The disaggregation of hardware and software is a major advancement for operators, and it is timely for 5G. We welcome Altran’s expertise in 5G technologies and are excited about the strong momentum in the DCSG community.”

George Tchaparian, President and CEO of Edgecore, said: “As operators rapidly embrace open network hardware, we will continue to innovate and advance mobile network technologies. Our continuing partnership with Altran and collaboration with TIP is helping operators build network infrastructure that is designed to meets today’s demands and is future-proof for new technologies on the horizon.”
