Only 5% of AI Pilots Reach Production – Siili’s New Managed AI Service Turns Pilots into Business Impact

Siili Solutions Plc Press Release 3 February 2026 at 8.15 EET

According to research, currently only about five percent of AI pilot projects proceed beyond the testing phase. In most cases, the challenge lies in the operational complexity of maintaining AI systems. Siili Solutions is addressing this issue with the launch of its Managed AI service. This new offering is designed to help organizations bring their AI initiatives into production and generate tangible business value.

The new Managed AI service from Siili Solutions focuses on the continuous operation and maintenance of AI solutions. It is designed to bridge the gap between experimentation and production, ensuring that AI initiatives are maintained and developed in long-term. The service complements Siili’s existing Managed Services offering, which covers application and infrastructure maintenance.

In many Finnish organizations, AI is being actively tested in different software development projects, but most pilots never reach production. As a result, they fail to create strategic value or generate cash flow. The problem isn’t just about the new technology. It is also about the operational requirements brought by the maintaining of AI solutions. Once integrated into business operations, AI solutions must be monitored, maintained, and continuously improved, all while managing costs and ensuring security.

“Companies are now conducting a lot of AI experiments, the majority of which are never taken to production to generate real value and cash flow for the company. Only about five percent of experiments reach production use. Management invests in AI expecting impressive results, and companies cannot afford AI solutions to perform poorly at critical moments. We want to offer our customers a controlled transition from experiments to production,” says Toni Petäjämaa, Director of Siili Solutions’ Managed Services business line.

Production-phase AI solutions require a completely different level of infrastructure than AI solutions in the largely closed pilot phase. Siili’s Managed AI service is designed to meet these challenges by taking care of the operation of AI solutions, monitoring the operation of language models, optimizing performance and costs, and ensuring that the solutions operate according to the agreed service level.

“The most expensive language model is not necessarily the best solution for every use case. The Managed AI service also takes into account the choice of language model, and what is a cost-effective solution for each case and the specific needs of the organization. The importance of quality control cannot be emphasized enough, as the level of AI responses is directly reflected in the user and customer experience. AI often produces responses that may seem reasonable, even if they are not correct. Many everyday AI users have certainly encountered this in even light bot conversations. In the era of AI, simply ensuring the technical operation of the system is no longer enough; you must also ensure that the responses it produces are also reasonable,” explains Petäjämaa.

For many public sector organizations and others handling sensitive data, security and regulatory compliance are essential part of AI solutions. Siili’s Managed AI service is built to support AI application, data, and model operations within controlled environments that meet all necessary regulatory requirements.

Siili’s managed services are certified in accordance with ISO 27001 (Information Security Management Systems) and ISO 42001 (AI Management Systems).
