Nokia and KPN make agreement to offer Wireless LAN Home Gateway Products

Helsinki, Finland, November 13, 2001 Nokia recently signed an agreement with KPN to supply them with Nokia Home Gateway products. Mxstream Wireless, KPN's ADSL/Fast Internet Service based on Nokia's MW/WLAN products -- the Nokia MW1112 and the MW1122 -- is the first result of this cooperation between Nokia and KPN. This range of products (Nokia MW11x2) enables consumer and corporate users to simultaneously connect every desktop PC, laptop or future Internet appliance to an 'always-on' fast internet access service. Providing wireless access, the Nokia Home Gateway enables the freedom of movement within the home or office. Nokia and KPN are front runners in the field of wireless broadband access and are paving the way towards broadband Internet access.

The Nokia MW11x2 Home Gateway allows simultaneous fast Internet access and resource sharing over a wireless-LAN connection. A multi-PC environment, utilized by every member of the family in the home, can take full advantage of ADSL services which may not be fully realized by single PC usage. The wireless connectivity provided by the MW11x2 helps remove the burden of re-wiring homes and enables true mobility not achievable by wireline networking schemes. The concept provides broadband access and 11 Mbit/s wireless-LAN connectivity via Nokia Home Gateway and associated Nokia W-LAN cards.

"With the Nokia WLAN ADSL Home Gateway we can provide our DSL offering to the increasing wireless communication market. I am convinced that by offering people the opportunity to use their broadband internet connection wirelessly, it will lead to more usage and will enable all kinds of new opportunities, " said Jan Wildeboer Senior Vice President Business Unit Broadband Networks, KPN.

"We are delighted to be working together with KPN," said Hanno Narjus, Head of Nokia Home Gateways and Servers, Nokia Home Communications. "This agreement is a continuation of our long-term co-operation in creating the home of the future. Wireless LAN is a leading technology for enabling wireless connectivity in homes therefore consumers can easily stay connected".
