Nokia and Pannon GSM continue successful co-operation with GSM in Hungary

Nokia and Pannon GSM of Hungary have signed an extension agreement in their long-term co-operation for the supply of GSM equipment, extending the scope of the frame contract signed in January 2001. The new agreement is worth more than USD 50 million.

Nokia remains the major supplier for Pannon GSM's network. Nokia will continue to supply GSM network infrastructure equipment to Pannon GSM, including mobile switches, base stations and other network elements needed for a state-of-the-art GSM network.

"This agreement continues our long-term cooperation with the aim of further enhancing the capacity and the quality of our network to provide the best quality services to our customers," said Björn Flakstad, CEO of Pannon GSM.

"We are proud to be working closely with the fastest growing Hungarian GSM operator and to be supporting Pannon GSM's objective to serve their customers on the highest level," said Thomas Högberg, senior account manager of Nokia Hungary Kft.

The contract is the continuation of the co-operation that began in 1993 when Nokia was chosen to supply a GSM network to Pannon GSM. Pannon GSM's network has been operational since 1994. Pannon GSM is currently owned by Sonera, Telenor and KPN. At the end of December 2001 Pannon GSM had more than 1.9 million subscribers.
