Nokia delivers TETRA network to Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe AG in Germany

Nokia has been selected to provide a digital TETRA professional mobile radio system with end-to-end IP data functionality to Kölner Verkehrs-Betriebe AG (KVB), the company providing public transportation for Cologne, Germany. The contract between KVB and Deutsche Telekom, as the general contractor, was signed in December 2001.

Deutsche Telekom's order to Nokia comprises infrastructure equipment, terminals and support services. Nokia's delivery of a fully operable TETRA network is to be completed by 1st June 2002.

KVB had made a Europe-wide bid for a professional radio system, for which Deutsche Telekom had made an offer based upon the TETRA technology. Eventually, KVB chose Deutsche Telekom as the general contractor and Nokia as the infrastructure supplier.

During the first phase, Nokia will deliver a TETRA switch, a number of base stations, dispatcher stations, and Nokia THR850 TETRA handsets with car kits.

In addition to network equipment, Nokia will provide its Network Deployment Package, which covers implementation, commissioning and project management; the Nokia KeyCare(TM) Package, which maintains the competitiveness of the network after roll-out; and a package of training services for developing staff competences. The contract between Deutsche Telekom and KVB also includes the integration of a complex-enterprise management system environment into the TETRA radio system.
