Emmersion Learning raises $600K in seed funding to launch its TrueNorth Speaking Test

Lehi, Utah, Feb. 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Emmersion Learning, the creator of the TrueNorth Speaking Test, raised $600,000 in seed financing from current investors and a small group of strategic investors including Zylun Global and Access to Education, a Silicon Valley edtech accelerator.

“This round of funding will allow us to continue to develop and distribute our TrueNorth Speaking Test, which automates speaking testing by leveraging cutting-edge speech recognition models, advanced statistical algorithms, and time-tested linguistic and psychometric methodologies,” said Joe Tomco Emmersion Learning CEO. “We are already in the process of growing our development and sales teams with this new funding.”

The investment group includes:

  • Strategic partners in the language assessment industry
  • Experienced edtech entrepreneurs
  • Language learning practitioners
  • Seasoned investors

“I invested in Emmersion Learning both because of their bold vision of how technology can dramatically improve language learning for billions of people and their innovative, but straightforward plan to get there,” said Gary Riding, an investor at Zylun Global and former SVP/GM of Samsung.

“We believe the future of education is personalized learning. Automating placement and progress testing is the first step in scalably personalizing language learning, and providing diagnostic feedback to create custom learning paths is next. We are committed to forging the frontier of language assessment to provide an adaptive testing system that not only identifies language level, but outlines a personalized learning path to get to the next level” said Dr. Jacob Burdis, Emmersion Learning Co-founder and Chief Product Officer.
