Nokia introduces unique Nokia NetAct framework for 3G network and service management

The system provides full-scale management capability for both packet data and traditional voice traffic, independent of technology. By reducing costs and complexity, this supports a seamless migration from GSM to GPRS, EDGE, WCMDA and IP technologies. Nokia NetAct was launched at TeleManagement World in Nice, France.
"Nokia NetAct is a breakthrough solution for managing the evolution from 2G to 3G networks. By supporting hybrid networks, Nokia NetAct makes it possible to deploy new technologies with the same system that manages current infrastructure. This gives operators and service providers more flexibility for optimising the scope and timing of their 3G deployment. It also reduces the impact of the complexity of 3G network operating costs," said Jorma Häkkinen, Vice President and General Manager, Nokia Operations Support Systems.
The open structure of Nokia NetAct, with clearly defined and supported Application Programming Interfaces, enables smooth integration with other systems. It also provides flexibility for developing new add-on applications, produced either in-house or by content providers. Off-the-shelf IT components and technologies such as Corba and Java have been used to further enhance openness and provide a shared growth path as the technology evolution continues.
Nokia is paving the way to the mobile information society with its innovative products and solutions. The company is the leading mobile phone supplier and a leading supplier of mobile, fixed and IP networks and related services, as well as multimedia terminals. In 1999, Nokia's net sales totalled EUR 19.8 billion (USD 19.9 billion). Headquartered in Finland, Nokia is listed on the New York (NOK), Helsinki, Stockholm, London, Frankfurt and Paris stock exchanges and employs more than 56,000 people.
