The Power Situation in Norway as of 7 November 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):     

High inflow and lower prices  
The total inflow to the Norwegian hydropower system was 3.4 TWh in week 44. I.e. 60 percent above normal. The high inflow contributed to an increase in the Norwegian hydro reservoirs, after four successive weeks with decreases. At the end of week 44 the reservoir level was 92.4 percent, up 1.1 percentage points during the week. The level was highest in Middle-Norway with 96.0 percent. The reservoir level in Sweden dropped with 0.1 percentage points to 84.0 percent. 

At the Nordic power exchange, Nord Pool the electricity prices fell from week 43 to week 44. The decline in prices is influenced by much precipitation and high inflow. At the same time electricity prices at the continent has dropped. The average price in Southern Norway fell from 33.8 øre/kWh in week 43 to 33.0 øre/kWh in week 44. Also in week 44 the prices in Southern Norway was higher than in Middle - and North Norway. The prices in Middle- and North Norway were 31.9 øre/kWh and 31.7 øre/kWh respectively.
