The Power Situation in Norway as of 4 July 2007

Lysaker, 4 July 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Increased Nordic electricity imports
German electricity prices fell by 32 percent from weeks 25 to 26. On average for week 26 the prices in Germany was lower than the electricity prices in Sweden and Denmark. There were 50 GWh electricity imports from Germany to the Nordic during the week. This is the highest level of import from Germany since week 9. Total Nordic electricity imports for the week was 132 GWh.

Norwegian electricity production is still high. Transmission capacities from the south of Norway to Sweden and Denmark were limited throughout the week due to grid maintenance. This contributed to lower electricity prices in the south of Norway compared to the rest of the Nordic area.

The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was about 110 percent of normal in week 26. The content in the reservoirs increased with 4.0 percentage points to 73.4 percent at the end of the week. The reservoir level is now 6 percentage points above normal, and the level of snow in the mountains is about normal for this time of year. The reservoir level in Sweden is 69.7 percent after an increase of 2.7 percentage points last week.
