The Power Situation in Norway as of 29 November 2006

Lysaker, 30 November 2006

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Import of electric power to mid-Norway
The first week after the establishing of a third price area in Norway gave high import to mid-Norway. The import to this price area amounted to a third of the electric power consumption within the area. The price for electric power in mid-Norway became 36.8 øre/kWh and this was 1.3 øre/kWh higher than in south-Norway. The price became 37.0 øre/kWh in north-Norway.

The separate price area for mid-Norway was established November 20th when the former price area for mid- and north-Norway was divided into two. The new NO2 denotes mid-Norway and the new NO3 denotes north-Norway. The main reason for this action is to arrange for import to mid-Norway from the other two Norwegian price areas and from Sweden.

Plenty of precipitation resulted in a further increase in the water reservoir level in Norway. At the end of week 47 the reservoir level was 65.7 percent. This is an increase of 0.4 percentage points from the previous week. The reservoir level is at present 17.1 percentage points below normal. The reservoir level is lowest in mid-Norway where the level is 63.9 percent after a decrease of 1.1 percentage points.
