The power situation in Norway as of 9 July 2008

Lysaker, 9 July 2008

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Price difference between Middle Norway and Northern Norway in week 27

The average power price in Middle Norway and Northern Norway was 47 and 45 øre/kWh respectively in week 27. The price difference between Middle Norway and Northern Norway was the biggest since week 9. The Northern Norway price equaled the Sweden and Middle Norway price only 38 percent of the hours last week. The Northern Norway price was mostly lower at daytime. Maximum use of the exchange capacities and high demand from Sweden can explain the price differences.

The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was 5.1 TWh, or approximately 10 percent more than normal. So far this year the inflow has been 75 TWh, or approximately 10 TWh more than normal. The level of the Norwegian reservoirs increased by 3.4 percentage points in week 27, and was 7851 percent by the end of the week. The reservoir level was 6.2 percentage points above the median level for the week, but 1.9 percentage points below the 2007 level.
