The power situation in Norway as of 29 October

Lysaker, 29 October 2008

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

High inflow and lower prices
The total inflow to the Norwegian hydropower system was 4.4 TWh in week 43. That is more than twice as much as normal. The high inflow contributed to an increase in the Norwegian hydro reservoirs. At the end of week 43 the reservoir level was 85.7 percent, up 2.2 percentage points during the week. Much precipitation in Southern-Norway contributed to an increase of the reservoir level in this area of 3.5 percentage points. In Middle- and Northern-Norway the there were a small decrease in the reservoir level.
At the Nordic power exchange, Nord Pool, the electricity prices fell from week 42 to week 43. The decline in prices is influenced by much precipitation and high inflow, together with high wind power production in Denmark. The price decrease was largest in Southern-Norway. In this area the weekly price dropped by 5 øre to 41 øre/kWh from week 42 to 43.
