Net Insight Introduces World's Smartest QoS Video Broadcast Over Fiber Networks

LAS VEGAS, April 8, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- NAB 2002, Las Vegas booth No. L 10846 - Net Insight (SX: NETI B), a leading provider of real-time broadband infrastructure technology for the broadcast industry, introduces network support for multicast distribution of SDI, ASI-DVB and Ethernet/IP video to its multiservice platform.

Net Insight takes fiber-based video networking further with system software for cost-effective broadcasting of loss-less and jitter-free video signals. Multicast system upgrades will be available during second quarter 2002.

The multicast system software will be available for three video access interfaces: SDI (Serial Digital Interface), ASI (Asynchronous Serial Interface) and Ethernet.

The Net Insight DTM (Dynamic synchronous Transfer Mode) multiservice network standard makes it technically possible to build large-scale fiber networks that are capable of TV and film distribution. Adding multicast to its network platform, Net Insight can help operators and service providers not only reach broadband users with guaranteed video services, but also to make it economically sound.

"This is the world's first viable solution for commercial quality multipoint video distribution over service transparent fiber networks. We can guarantee the quality of service without rocket-science network management or complex priority mechanisms. That makes DTM multicast unique," said Bengt J. Olsson, VP Product Management, Net Insight.

The multicast service makes it possible to distribute video signals ranging from PC-based Ethernet streaming to studio quality 270 Mbps SDI (Serial Digital Interface). Net Insight's DTM technology has the ability to split the fiber capacity into channel segments of 512 kbps. Bandwidth can be provisioned in circuit-switched channels to meet with the requirements of specific video services such as CATV, IP-TV, HDTV and studio Quality SDI feeds.

SDI, ASI and ETS Multicast key features:

-- Guaranteed quality of service. SDI, ASI and ETS Multicast are the
world's first network services able to guarantee the delay, jitter
and bandwidth of a stream to all recipients, independent of
    network load.

-- Intelligent network. Fast and reliable network eliminates the
need for expensive video coders, and cache servers. This in turn
   minimizes hardware and management costs.

-- Dynamic. Join/leave multicast sessions dynamically while
maintaining functionality and quality of service.

-- Multiservice network. With separated channels for each service,
video, voice and data can be merged in one network with
    sustained QoS.

-- Follows industry standards. Fully standards compliant with the
BT .601 (SDI), CENELEC EN 50083-9 (ASI) and IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet)
    standards.

-- Logical networking. Channeled data streams provide for simple
one-step end-to-end provisioning of multicast channels.

-- Efficient use of network resources. Unidirectional multicast
channels utilize a minimal amount of bandwidth in the network.
Resources are therefore utilized at maximum efficiency.

-- Built in redundancy. NimOS, the DTM operating system, ensures
swift recovery from network failures by quick rerouting and
re-establishing of the part of the multicast-tree that has failed.
    Prepared for 1+1 protection switching.
