Bit6 Adds PSTN Interoperability to SDKs, Connects Apps With the Entire Communications Ecosystem

Closing the Gap Between WebRTC and Legacy Systems Delivers a Unified Experience

HOUSTON, Dec. 2, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Bit6 (www.bit6.com), a communications as-a-service platform provider that helps transform the app experience by allowing developers to easily embed real-time communication features to any mobile or Web application, today announced the addition of PSTN (public switched telephone network) integration capabilities for their iOS, Android and JavaScript SDKs (Software Development Kits). This is a major advance in helping app developers leverage the entire communications ecosystem, enabling their apps to connect voice calls with legacy telephony systems including landlines and feature phones.

The Bit6 platform, which is currently in beta, helps developers create new ways to deliver real-time voice, video and text/multimedia messaging capabilities that are integrated into their Web and mobile applications. With Bit6, app developers gain the ability to quickly and easily add features that enable user-to-user communications across smartphones, feature phones, tablets and Web browsers. As a result of today's announcement, Bit6's APIs (application programming interfaces) now include PSTN interoperability, making it possible for app users to initiate calls to landlines or mobile phones in addition to VoIP and WebRTC connectivity.

Additionally, app developers can use Bit6's PSTN capabilities as a safety net for VoIP systems for critical functions such as customer support. If a VoIP connection is poor, the system can default to PSTN, reducing operational costs without sacrificing Quality of Service.

In addition to PSTN integration, Bit6's SDKs make it possible for app developers to integrate app-to-app messaging, real-time notifications, voice or video calling, and picture, video and location sharing into their apps. Developers can see all the current platform features at http://demo.bit6.com.

"Providing PSTN interoperability gives app developers the best of both worlds – allowing them to leverage emerging communications technologies such as WebRTC while also connecting with the large portion of the population that continues to rely on traditional landlines and mobile phones – and will continue to do so for many years to come," said Bit6 CEO Alexey Goloshubin. "We are excited to enhance the ability of app developers to offer a seamless user experience that satisfies the broad spectrum of ways app users communicate."

The technology underlying the Bit6 platform is already being used to power top apps in iTunes and Google Play. The team behind Voxofon (www.voxofon.com), which supports millions of calls and messages per month across more than 200 countries, is capitalizing on its experience and expertise communications technologies and user behavior to develop the Bit6 platform.
