Net Insight Releases Module for MPEG2 Video Transport in QoS Networks with Configurable Bandwidth

Adding an ASI (Asynchronous Serial Interface) to its multiservice network platform, Net Insight is able to significantly lower the costs for high-quality video contribution by improved utilization in fiber-based media networks.

"Until now, most ASI solutions have been able to transport compressed video but still consume the same amount of bandwidth as for uncompressed 270 Mbps video. By introducing an access unit that can be configured to match the bit rate of any compressed video signal, we now challenge this waste of capacity," says Bengt J. Olsson, VP Product Management, Net Insight.

With the ASI Transport Access Module installed as an access unit in a DTM (Dynamic synchronous Transfer Mode) media network, it possible to configure channeled bandwidth in increments of 512kbps. Network resources can thereby be configured to match any broadcast or contribution video transport requirements ranging from 0,5 Mbps up to 213 Mbps.

The Net Insight DTM network technology guarantees the transport by granting each service a reserved channel throughout the network. Real-time critical services, such as video and audio transport, therefore remain unaffected by network load and are delivered with guaranteed quality of service and constant low delay.

The ASI Transport Access Module is available for immediate delivery.

ASI Transport Access Module key features:
- Full range DVB/ASI. The ASI Transport Access Module supports transport of DVB/ASI signals in any bit rate from 512 kbps to 213 Mbps.
- 4 ports. With 4 BNC connectors, 2 input and 2 output, that can be used independently from each other.
- 2 monitoring ports. For flexible monitoring or duplication of received or transmitted signals.
- Configurable bandwidth. Saves network resources by tailoring the used bandwidth to the stream bit rate.
- Multicast. The ASI Transport Access Module supports multicast of DVB-signals.
- Performance monitoring. Full control over video signal quality with the G.826 based performance monitoring feature.
- Protection switching. The ASI Transport Access Module support several levels of protection switching. From network redundancy with alternate routing to complete 1+1 protection with 50 ms redundancy and dual equipment end-to-end.
- ITU compliance. The ASI Transport Access Module fully complies with the ITU requirements for professional video equipment.
- CENELEC compliance. The ASI Transport Access Module fully complies with the CENELEC EN 50083-9 requirements for cabled distribution systems of television, sound and interactive multimedia signals.
