Nokia 3-DNS® Controller 520 Provides Wide Area Traffic Management Across Globally Distributed Data Centers

Mountain View, CA - (May 29, 2002) - Today Nokia announced its new 3-DNS® Controller 520, a wide area traffic management solution targeted at enterprises and service providers that ensures high availability of IP applications and services. With the ability to scale across multiple, distributed data centers, the Nokia 3-DNS guarantees optimal application availability, reliability and fast performance across all Internet sites, regardless of geographic location.

The Nokia 3-DNS Controller 520 inserts intelligence into industry standard DNS by examining the health of data centers, the network and user geography and directing traffic to the optimal site based on customizable business policies. The solution also includes the industry’s first Content Delivery Network (CDN) switching capability. With CDN switching, traffic can be shared with a third-party CDN, thus extending the capacity of any site. The Nokia 3-DNS Controller 520 and additional Nokia Internet Traffic and Content Management (iTCM) product offerings are results of its alliance with F5 Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: FFIV), the leading provider of iTCM solutions.

"With the introduction of Nokia 3-DNS, Nokia now offers a completely integrated, local and global traffic management solution when deployed with the BIG-IP local area traffic management solution," said Dan MacDonald, vice president, product management, Nokia Internet Communications. "Nokia's iTCM product line is a valuable addition to Nokia's overall Internet product family of security and high availability solutions."

Nokia 3-DNS supports a wide variety of applications such as Web, email, FTP, streamed multimedia and other IP protocol traffic, and continually eliminates single points of failure on the network, therefore routing traffic away from poorly performing sites and servers. With its personal Internet weather map functionality, organizations can identify optimal network locations to deploy new resources. Additionally, the Nokia 3-DNS makes it easier to work with complex intranet, extranet and Internet information and applications, with synchronized configuration for simple management of all Nokia 3-DNS Controllers in an organization’s network.

Other benefits include:
- Comprehensive load-balancing using the industry’s most advanced methodology
- Extended content verification - ensuring content is available prior to directing users to a site
- Disaster recovery - allocating back-up sites in the event of a disaster
- Enhanced security, scalability and manageability
- No software or hardware modification for the user

Additional products in the Nokia iTCM product line include the Nokia BIG-IP FireGuard 520 appliance, Nokia BIG-IP HA+ 540 appliance and the Nokia BIG-IP 2000 and 5000 application switch.
Nokia 3-DNS Controller 520 will be available globally in June 2002.
