Nokia to further expand ONE‘s existing GSM 1800 Network in Austria

ONE (Connect Austria Gesellschaft fuer Telekommunikation GmbH) and Nokia have signed a contract for the further expansion of the operator's GSM 1800 network. The contract, which covers two years, means that Nokia remains the sole GSM supplier to ONE.

Nokia is supplying a full range of GSM core, as well as radio access radio infrastructure and transmission equipment.  Deliveries will include the new Ultrasite base station and MSCi switching series and further expansions of existing SMSC, WAP and GPRS systems as well as  new network functionality to further improve quality and performance.

In addition to network equipment, Nokia will provide a full range of services including  the Nokia KeyCareTM Package, including operations support to maintain the competitiveness of the network.

Nokia will also be engaging in securing 2G-3G handovers between both networks, as Nokia is also a supplier of the 3G network for ONE.

“Over the past four years we have implemented a wide range of new, innovative technologies and services within our mobile network”, says Jörgen Bang-Jensen, CEO of ONE.

“We are pleased to continue our co-operation with Nokia and to expand our service. Through our nationwide GSM 1800 network, ONE offers high quality services combined with tailored solutions for business users and consumers, ” he adds.

“The decision made by ONE to continue our long co-operation is a key milestone for Nokia”, says, Louis Hedberg, Head of Nokia’s Customer Account Team for ONE.

This GSM expansion comes after ONE announced the launch of ONE COMPASS: a new location-based service for mobile subscribers, in June 2002. Based on Nokia’s mPosition solution, ONE COMPASS allows users to seamlessly receive a wide range of location-based useful information. The location-based information may either be retrieved by SMS or WAP.
