The solution combines the strict Quality of Service transport associated with SDH/SONET with the flexibility and multi-service characteristics of Net Insight's media solutions. Together with Net Insight’s modular access switch and DTM (Dynamic synchronous Transfer Mode) backbone solution, the DTM 600 Trunk Module targets operators who are committed to delivering professional quality video and data services for the media industry.
Installed in a Nimbra One access switch, the DTM 600 Trunk Module offers a 622 Mbps SDH/SONET compliant single-mode full duplex trunk interface for Net Insight’s media network platform.
Adding a flexible service layer, Net Insight’s media network platform runs on top of SDH/SONET links, converting them into a high performance, switched multi-service network with optimal utilization factor. With a user payload rate of almost 590 Mbps the DTM 600 Trunk Module supports simultaneous transport of two SDI streams, and still leaving enough capacity for simultaneous transport of ASI, Ethernet and PDH streams.
Integrated into a SDH/SONET infrastructure, the module makes it possible to reach out with new and high-quality services to locations that are not accessible via dark fiber, DWDM or higher capacity SDH/SONET links. Together with Net Insight's DTM 150 Trunk Module for STM-1/OC-3 and Nimbra 291 STM-16/OC-48 switching transponder, the introduction of the new module makes it possible to utilizes all the common transmission links in a legacy SDH/SONET network.
"The DTM 600 Trunk Module completes our range of SDH/SONET enhancing interfaces. While the applicability of this interface is general in scope, special care has been taken to provide the unique timing properties needed for studio quality video transport over imperfect SDH/SONET networks. We believe that this board will be very attractive for media network operators", says Bengt J. Olsson, VP Product Management, Net Insight.
DTM 600 Trunk Module key features:
* Transparency of audio, video and data. All services can be provisioned over either SDH STM-4c or SONET OC-12c links.
* Low overhead. With 589,824 Mbps payload, the solution gives a link overhead of only 1,5 percent.
* Timing transparency. Sophisticated control of jitter and wander allows transport of demanding services, such as uncompressed video over SDI, without degradation. This even when the signal is subject to pointer adjustments in the underlying SDH/SONET network.
* Small Formfactor Pluggable (SFP). Optical interfaces for Short-Haul, Intermediate Range and Long-Haul.
* Hot swap. In order to provide high availability the DTM 600 Trunk Module supports hot swap during operation for instant replacement.
* Standards compliant. Complies with applicable SDH, SONET and DTM standards.
* Performance monitoring. Supports monitoring standard performance parameters.
