Nokia begins sale of fashionable CDMA2000 1X phones in Brazil

Sao Paulo, Brazil – (October 16, 2002) – Boasting a fashionable new design and the latest in CDMA technology, the new Nokia 8280 phone offers a new level of style to Latin America’s CDMA phone users and the benefits of CDMA2000 1X technology to Latin American CDMA carriers. Designed for the style conscious and socially active consumer, the Nokia 8280 phone includes features such as user-changeable front and back Xpress-onÔ color covers, a mobile Internet browser, mobile messaging with predictive text input and downloadable ring tones. Shipments began last week.

“The Nokia 8280 reflects Nokia’s leadership not only in fashion, but in CDMA technology as well,” said Soren Petersen, senior vice president and general manager of CDMA for Nokia. ”As the world’s largest producer of mobile phones and a leading manufacturer of CDMA handsets, Nokia is uniquely positioned to offer a wide range of products to satisfy the tastes and desires of different groups of consumers around the world.”

Continuing Nokia’s pioneering work in researching trends in color, four optional accessory Xpress-on color covers are being offered in orange, pink, purple and light blue. Keypads and display lenses that glow colorfully when the phone’s backlight is activated accent the new covers and add an extra appeal to the Nokia 8280 phone. Additionally, the Nokia 8280 phone has space for ten downloadable ring tones to add an even more personal touch.

“The Nokia 8280 offers personalization options and a fresh new style that has previously been unavailable in the CDMA2000 1X market,” said Cesar Keller, marketing director for Nokia Brazil. “Nokia recognizes that the Latin American market demands a product that allows users to express themselves, and the Nokia 8280 is designed to answer that demand.”
