Nokia selects Syndesis to provide automated provisioning for the Nokia Broadband Media Solution

SUPERCOMM, Atlanta, Georgia, June 3, 2003 - Nokia will today demonstrate how the Nokia NetAct for Broadband network management solution has been successfully integrated with the Syndesis product suite to provide automated provisioning and reconciliation for the Nokia Broadband Media solution. The Nokia and Syndesis cooperation leverages their award-winning, carrier-class capabilities for service providers worldwide. The Syndesis® Nokia NetAct for Broadband Equipment Module enables a highly scalable, automated provisioning and reconciliation solution.

"With the rapidly growing DSL business it is important that broadband operators have the best tools available to easily and flexibly enable the automated provisioning of new, profitable services. As the market grows, a greater number of services will appear and will require scalable solutions to allow easy activation of new DSL subscribers, " said Jean-Francois Chapuis, Director of OSS Product Management, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks.

Nokia NetAct for Broadband has been integrated with Syndesis to provision xDSL and ATM services in the Nokia D500 and D500 RAM, allowing the rapid and error-free activation of thousands of DSL subscribers. This solution allows physical (hardware) inventory and logical (connections) inventory upload and discovery, creation, modification and deletion of cross-connects from DSL port to network interface port, as well as in-service inventory reconciliation.

In a related release, Nokia NetAct for Broadband has also been integrated with Micromuse Netcool, allowing broadband access network operators to rapidly isolate faults in the physical plant, prioritize service outages and assess the business impact of such service outages in a single dashboard.

"First generation DSL was about technology, customer awareness and the loop qualification issue. Next generation broadband access, which service providers are evolving to, is about profitability, differentiated services, rich content, and reduced customer churn. Syndesis' automated broadband provisioning, in conjunction with Micromuse's industry-leading service assurance, synergistically contribute to Nokia's comprehensive solution for tomorrow's access environment," said John McKerracher, Vice President Business Development for Syndesis.

Nokia NetAct for Broadband provides broadband access network operators with a carrier-class management system that meets their scalability, reliability, performance and ease of use requirements.  A complete, integrated element management system, Nokia NetAct for Broadband features topology, fault, inventory, configuration, performance and security management as well as cut-through command line interfaces for the Nokia D500 and D500 RAM.  Its standards-based XML and CORBA northbound interfaces allow for fast integration with existing operations support systems.
