SeaChange, Net Insight and Kreatel Provide Integrated Video-On-Demand Solution For Triple Play

VOD is a burgeoning television application that enables viewers to personally select what they want to watch, at their convenience. Telco's xDSL and fiber networks, together with integrated components of the three companies, provide two-way interactive capabilities and permit viewers to pause, fast-forward and rewind movies and other television programming.

The fully integrated solution uses widely deployed components from three companies with proven track records in triple play:
a) IP set-top boxes from Kreatel with support for MPEG-2 and advanced codecs that are used in Europe, Middle East and Africa triple play deployments;
b) SeaChange's scalable, fault-resilient VOD server platform that has been proven in the largest commercial VOD deployments worldwide; and
c) High efficiency network equipment with guaranteed 100% QoS from Net Insight that is powering U.S. triple play deployments.

The companies have extensively tested the interoperability of their products to ensure that customers will get the most reliable VOD solution. The result is a solution where Telcos can quickly and reliably meet consumer demand for VOD services.

SeaChange is the worldwide market leader for VOD servers and software with over 750,000 streams installed worldwide in over 100 commercial deployments. SeaChange's patented, Emmy award-winning MediaClusterTM VOD server platform provides multi-format streaming of MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and other advanced codecs including Windows Media 9, H.264, and On2, and is scalable from a few hundred streams to hundreds of thousands of streams.

"The integrated end-to-end VOD solution from SeaChange, Kreatel, and Net Insight provides telecommunications service providers with a proven, cost-effective path for deploying commercial VOD services over xDSL and fiber networks," said Yvette Kanouff, corporate vice president, strategic planning, SeaChange. "This collaboration enables successful deployment of VOD services for Triple Play solutions by providing a low risk implementation that delivers lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO),"

The Kreatel IP-STB System combines the set-top box hardware with a software platform, providing a multi-application environment with standards-based open interfaces for quick system integration and application development. Kreatel set-top boxes have been proven in large volume deployments. "Making it easy for Telcos to deploy high-quality video services is of large importance to Kreatel." said Lars Bengtsson, CEO of Kreatel. "The integrated solution together with SeaChange and Net Insight is such a combination that fulfills that perspective."

Net Insight's standards-based Nimbra transport platform provides 100% QoS multicast with over 95% network utilization to deliver the most reliable VOD transport. Net Insight's solutions currently deliver triple play in several installations in the US, and are used by leading broadcasters such as ABC, Fox, WDR and MSNBC. "SeaChange, Kreatel and Net Insight have been pioneers in delivering reliable triple play service," said Tomas Duffy, CEO of Net Insight. " That experience has resulted in a scalable and reliable VOD solution that meets the needs of Telco's in today's competitive environment."
