Huhtamaki, the global consumer packaging specialist, has received five WorldStar awards in the annual packaging competition organized by the World Packaging Organization.
Cyclero® flexible packaging for coffee pads and soft drinks
In the beverage category, two applications of Huhtamaki's Cyclero® flexible packaging were awarded. Cyclero® for Amaroy Coffee Pads is an easy open and re-close circular container for coffee which prevents the pads from squashing or folding and has an optimal aroma protection. Amaroy Coffee Pads is packed by Aldi Süd, one of the world's largest discount retailers.
The other awarded Cyclero® application is Drinkbax for non-carbonated soft drinks manufactured for Jung Bonbonfabrik. Drinkbax is the first beverage application on the flexible packaging market. The lightweight packaging is easy to carry and dispose of and it has an outstanding life cycle analysis performance. It has high barrier properties and therefore provides optimal product protection combined with minimum material input. The product can be pasteurized or sterilized to guarantee a long shelf life.
Cyclero® has been developed in Ronsberg, Germany, a Center of Competence in the Huhtamaki Group.
Sleeves for "Style-a-Coke" promotion and "Kiwi - Shoe Polish & Applicator" set
The "Style-a-Coke" promotion was developed by Huhtamaki's unit in India. In the point-of-sale for Coke, a digital photograph of a Coke consumer is attached to the can by shrinking a pre-printed sleeve on top of the photo. The picture of the consumer is visible on the customized "Style-a-Coke" can from a window in the shrink sleeve.
In the household category, the winning packaging solution was a sleeve for a single use "Kiwi - Shoe Polish & Applicator" set developed by Sara Lee and packaged by Huhtamaki in India. A shrink sleeve was developed to serve the dual purpose of bunching and branding. It holds together three packs as well as meets the branding requirements of the set. A multicolor printed sleeve with registered perforations makes the pack easy to open and helps in single unit usage from the set of three.
Cost effective and environment friendly carrier tray for yoghurt tubs
Huhtamaki's unit in South Africa received a world star award in the food category for their 20 cell carrier tray for 175 g yoghurt tubs. The rigid, cost effective and environment friendly molded fiber tray was developed for 175g yoghurt tubs. Tray pockets act as a dividers between the tubs, thereby reducing damage to the tubs whilst in transit, and the trays can be stacked on top of each other with minimal damage to foil seals. The molded fiber tray with shrink-wrap offers a viable alternative to corrugate trays in distribution packaging.
