The Power Situation in Norway as of 10 November 2004

Lysaker, 10 November 2004

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

In week 45 there were a net import of electricity to Norway of 381 GWh. So far this year there has been a total net import of some 10 TWh to Norway. This is higher than the net import to Norway in any previous year. Low consumption in Germany, due to mild weather resulted in reduced Nordic export to Germany. Consequently more of the Danish power production was exported to Norway and Sweden.

The inflow to the Norwegian hydropower reservoirs was about 1.5 TWh in week 45, which is less than normal. Thus, the reservoir fillings decreased with 0.4 percentage points despite relatively low Norwegian production. The reservoir level is now 78.1 percent. Compared to the same week last year this is an improvement of 11.1 percentage points. The reservoir filling in Sweden is now 79.6 percent, after a drop during week 45 of 0.6 percentage points.
