The Power Situation in Norway as of 03 November 2004

Lysaker, 03 November 2004

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Also in week 44, the electricity production in Sweden and Denmark has been higher than the consumption in these countries. This has contributed to maintaining relatively high import and low Norwegian production of electricity. During week 44, the net import of electricity to Norway was approximately 300 GWh. In comparison, there was balance in the Norwegian electricity exchange in the same week last year.

During week 44, the inflow to the Norwegian hydropower reservoirs was 30 percent lower than normal for this week. Together with high Norwegian production, this has contributed to reducing the reservoir filling level by 0.8 percentage points to 78.5 percent as of November 1st. In Sweden, the filling level fell by 0.4 percentage points to 80.2 percent.

In the end user market, there has been little change during the last few weeks. The average price announced by the dominating suppliers in 26 grid areas is 0.353 NOK/kWh in week 47. This is an increase of 0.002 NOK/kWh since week 46. The average price offered by the 15 cheapest national suppliers in week 47 is 0.323 NOK/kWh, after an increase of 0.001 NOK/kWh since week 46.
